Hockey is arguably Canada's favourite sport. There are thousands of fans from various walks of life that cheer for their respective teams across the country, but the sport has had a history of lacking diversity in their players and even in the way they represent hockey fans in the media. Out in the West Coast, the Canucks have a huge fanbase of Asian immigrants who love and follow the sport.
So, for the 2019 Lunar New Year, TD partnered with us to welcome Canucks fans into the stadium by bridging together the world of hockey with a special Lunar New Year tradtition. Inspired by the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees in China, we created a wishing tree out of hundreds of hockey sticks, along with cards that fans could write their wishes on for themselves, their family and the players for good fortune.
